The National Association for Trade Union Research and Education(NATURE) was formed on 10th July 1998. It is a collective of national trade unions of Sri Lanka. It has within its fold 19 major trade unions covering all sectors of the national economy.
It was formed on the conviction that a fragmented trade union movement is not in the best interests of the working people who would not be able to withstand singly the offensive of the global forces that seek to undermine their rights and interests.
It believes that trade unions should be independent of employers, State and political parties. However, the need to be sensitive to political developments that have an impact on the work-life of its members is recognized. The entire project was driven by the desire to achieve trade union unity.
